Don’t make adjustments because an employee may be disabled – make them for the right reasons.

Too many employers get hung up about whether the employee comes under the Disability Discrimination Act or not, so they can determine whether or not they need to make reasonable adjustments. Why does it matter whether you’re legally obliged to consider reasonable adjustments or not?

The clue is in the word ‘reasonable’ – if any employee is struggling with something, have a look and see if you can help. Be reasonable and adjust the job, their environment, their hours – whatever it is – if you reasonably can do. Just because they’re not protected doesn’t mean you should be unreasonable!
