Today has been international anti-corruption day.
Corruption normally paints pictures of financial dishonesty, but don’t forget the less subtle corruption that happens every day when people bully others into doing things they know is wrong.
I’ve been involved in a case where operational pressures for output pushed managers to instruct employees to disregard quality procedures – this then put public lives at risk. The result? Managers dismissed, employees dismissed, company reputation damaged, luckily nothing worse.
It really isn’t worth it just to tick boxes to drive KPIs.
Whatever the corruption be brave and speak up – it’s the right thing to do – for everyone’s sake.
